The Canal Corridor Association, which manages the LaSalle Canal Boat, is delighted to announce the Opening Weekend of our 2015 LaSalle Canal Season, April 24th-26th. This season is particularly special, as we will be introducing the newest member of our team; an energetic, 12 year-old mule we’ve come to call “Larry Jr.”
Larry was born in Windsor, IL, (just north of Galesburg) and has spent the last 3 years right here in LaSalle at the home of Jack and Liz Porter! He is incredibly friendly, loves apples, and is very fond of children. Larry will be joining veteran mule “Moe” this summer and fall as they delight visitors and locals alike, re-enacting Illinois history, canal boat in tow. In order to make sure everyone has a chance to meet Larry Jr. and experience the canal boat ride, we are proud to announce that all KIDS UNDER 10 RIDE FREE with the purchase of an adult ticket all Opening Weekend!
The LaSalle Canal Boat season begins in April this year to accommodate a number of school groups who will be riding the canal boat, learning history, and meeting our mules before their summer vacation begins. We are very touched by the community’s continued interest in the lives of our canal mules, and look forward to introducing you all to Larry Jr. on April 24th, opening day!
The Canal Corridor Association thanks Ralph and Marlene Moshage who have wintered the mules, as well as Larry’s previous owners, Jack and Liz Porter for raising such a kindhearted mule.
The Canal Corridor Association preserves history, protects nature and open space, and creates destinations where people can learn and have fun in the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor, from Lake Michigan in Chicago to the Illinois River in LaSalle-Peru.
